We built a tool to read our own logs, and opened it up

Every Monday we read synacl.com's Search Console export and nginx log to see who read the site and what to write next. When we checked which AI crawlers were really reading us, most of them weren't: in 30 days, 217 of the 221 ChatGPT-User requests from outside OpenAI's published list came from scanners.

The checker and the weekly read that grew out of it are now siteread, a free, open-source tool for anyone who runs a content site. It runs on your own machine and sends nothing unless you choose to share. synacl.com is the first named row on its public benchmark.

The full story, with the numbers, is on siteread.dev: Most of the AI traffic in our logs was fake. So we had to build a system to tell it apart

Try it on your own hardware

Synacl is free for five devices — no card, no sales call. Flash a gateway from the browser, add your first device, and see live data in a few minutes.
