Editing, moving & deleting a device
From the Devices list, open a device to edit it:
- Rename or change its location label any time.
- Connection settings — adjust the protocol-specific
connfields (e.g. Modbus ID, poll interval). Changes take effect on the next read cycle. - Reassign to a gateway — for gateway-mediated devices, move it under a different gateway.
- Tags — add, rename, or remove measurements. Re-point any widgets that referenced a renamed tag.
Deleting a device is permanent: the device, its tags and its stored history are removed, it stops ingesting, and it frees a slot against your plan's max_devices.
Anything that depended on it is kept but switched off, so nothing can fire for a device that no longer exists:
- Rules that watch it (a threshold on one of its tags, or an event rule scoped to it).
- Macros whose steps read or drive it, or that trigger on its events.
A system/message event in Events names each one — edit or delete them from Rules and Macros. A rule that only commands the device as one of its actions stays on; that action is skipped. Dashboard widgets that showed the device are left as they are and render empty — remove or re-point them.
