I'm not getting push notifications on my phone

Updated

The Synacl app can tell you exactly where a notification is getting stuck. Open Settings → Notifications in the app and look at the This device card at the top.

1. Check the "This device" card

Row What you want to see If not
Notifications Allowed Tap Open Settings and turn notifications on for Synacl.
Registered Yes · a few minutes ago Tap Retry. The reason is shown next to "No".
APNs token (iPhone only) Present Make sure you're on app version 1.0.1 or later, then force-quit the app and open it again.

2. Send yourself a test notification

Tap Send test notification. The app lists each phone registered to you (only yours — never a colleague's) and whether our notification provider (Firebase) accepted the message.

A test ignores your quiet hours and severity settings, so it tells you whether delivery works at all.

3. Check what you've asked us to send

Real alerts follow your notification settings. These apply to all your signed-in phones, and to yours only — on a shared workspace, each team member's phone follows that member's own settings:

What sends a push

A gateway outage is one push — Gateway offline: — not one per device behind it; a device that drops on its own while its gateway is up is pushed on its own. Coming back online is not pushed at all, so a gateway reconnecting doesn't buzz you either.

I'm a team member and get nothing

If you were invited to someone else's workspace, your phone receives that workspace's alerts, filtered by your own Settings → Notifications — the owner's settings don't apply to you, and yours don't apply to them. Team members' phones were only recently included: a phone that was already signed in picks this up on its own within a few hours of use, and opening the app brings that forward. If you have been removed from the team, notifications stop with your access.

Still stuck?

Use Report a bug in the app or on the web and include a screenshot of the This device card. It shows everything we need to know.
